News from the Barge Canal

Today's update includes a podcast to listen to, a date to save, and a petition to sign.

The new podcast by our Intern Extraordinaire, Maeve Fairfax, is out! It’s an interview (15 min) with Alicia Daniel, head of the Vermont Master Naturalist program, former Burlington City Naturalist and long-time teacher in the UVM Field Naturalist program. Alicia has had a long journey with the Barge Canal, including a stint on the Conservation Commission in 1992-93 when EPA proposed their $50 million dollar remediation plan. Listen here or on the FBC website.

Our fourth annual Green Up Day event at the Barge Canal will take place Saturday, May 3, 9 AM to 1 PM. Come for an hour or the whole time. As always, lots of trash to pull out of the woods and fields (but not nearly as much as previous years). We will provide food to keep you going. Bring water to drink, work gloves if you have them, long pants, long-sleeved shirts and sturdy shoes. Rain or shine. More information will follow so stay tuned, and if you are planning to come, please RSVP here!

If you haven’t signed the new FBC petition, please sign here. We are calling on Burlington’s Community and Economic Development Office (CEDO) to convene an all-parties meeting to consider 50-year goals for the Barge Canal. It’s about time. Please add your name and comments.
